See Our Star Tribune Op-Ed on Election Reform
May 23, 2009
On May 23, the Star Tribune published our commentary on election reform: http://www.startribune.com/opinion/. Gov. Pawlenty vetoed an automatic voter registration bill, HF 1053, on May 21. In this commentary, we respond to his veto and explain why election reform, and a 21st century voter registration system in particular, are vital to the legitimacy of our elections. Go to the link above and check it out!

I like your editorial which I read at the time it was published. I would hope we would also be considering preferential voting as well. Since Minnesota seems to generate more than two plausible candidates, we are bound to have more of what we recently experienced in the Senate race. This is similar to the Caucus rules (for Democrats, anyway) that allows someone to move to their first 2nd choice when their own 1st choice doesn't have enough vote to be considered. This would save time and money and can be proven to be quite fair. I belong to an international organization (80 nations) that now votes this way and it has saved a full day at a 6-day conference for program and advocacy work.
