Save the Date - Thursday, August 21

Please mark your calendar to join us on Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, 5:15 to 7:45 p.m., at Kellogg Square's outdoor terrace, for a sneak preview of St. Paul's most eloquent response to the Republican National Convention:  True Blue Minnesota

Under the amazing leadership and creativity of Martha Ballou and Andrew Hine, True Blue Minnesota will place two jumbotron video screens within view of the Xcel Center to spark a community dialogue during all four days of the RNC.  True Blue Minnesota has received an extraordinary response to its request for video content: from filmmakers, documentarians, visual artists, musicians, comedians as well as just plain citizens, throughout the U.S., on issues including the war, health care, labor, the economy and the environment.

Join us to show your support for True Blue Minnesota at this upcoming fundraiser~friendraiser~consciousness-raiser.  You can start by forwarding this email to at least 10 friends to join you at the sneak preview.  True Blue Minnesota gives all of us a chance to respond meaningfully to the RNC when it comes to St. Paul.

Protest, art go digital

This fall, the RNC National Convention will attract more than just Republican delegates to Ward Two. Protesters of all stripes are expected to descend upon Saint Paul to express their views to their temporarily captive audience.

One homegrown progressive 527 organization is True Blue Minnesota, led by President Martha Ballou of Highland Park and VP Andrew Hine of Brewerytown. They have hired two "JumboTron" televisions on which to play messages to the world.

Tell us what RNC Logo should REALLY say

No WMDs. Katrina. Abu Ghraib. These are just a few things that come to mind when looking back on the last seven and a half years of the Bush Administration’s conservative policies.

The Republicans would like us to forget about their failed policies when they come to town in just 6 short weeks. But we think these failed policies are worth remembering – and what better way than to include it in the Republican National Convention (RNC) logo?

Submit your suggestions in the comment section below. Over the next few weeks we will take nominations for the new RNC logo tagline and then allow you to vote on the best ones. We will also accept nominations via text message – text SLOGAN to 69866.

We will also take redesign ideas for the logo itself. Those nominations will be accepted by uploading the image to Flickr and tagging it RNCredesign or send us an e-mail to infoalliance@allianceminnesota.org.

The winning entry will be featured on our website and on all our materials during the convention. Get creative, and send it our way.

RNC protests: 16 park permits issued by St. Paul

True Blue Minnesota was recently mentioned in the Minnesota Independent. You can read the complete article here:  http://minnesotaindependent.com/view/rnc-protests-16-park

True Blue Minnesota was among the lottery winners. The group plans to stage anti-RNC events at Triangle Park on each day of the convention. According to Andrew Hine, one of the principal organizers of the gathering, they intend to utilize a 20 x 27 foot television screen to communicate their message. "It's part digital billboard and part drive-in movie theater," Hine says. The content will range from projections of single words like "shame" or "truth" to poltical cartoons to full-length movies such as the recent documentary Body of War.

"The reason we want to do this is to provide an alternative method of protest and dissent, a non-violent alternative," says Hine, who co-founded the group with attorney Martha Ballou. "We live in St. Paul and we want St. Paul to look good, even from a protest standpoint."

Start Spreading The News...

...we're leaving today...

Winstead_200x234 President Ballou and VP Hine are off to New York City this afternoon to meet with Lizz Winstead of "Shoot The Messenger" fame.  The plan is to get programming material (comedy/satire) and to expand our network, pun intended.  For a trip report, come to the Fundraiser next Wednesday!

True Blue on cable access TV

On Monday night, May 12, True Blue's VP Andrew Hine appeared on "Our World Today," a live cable show hosted by Bill Oldfather and produced in SCC'c studios in White Bear Lake.  Andrew and Sarah Martin of the Coalition To March On The RNC discussed their plans for the RNC Convention.  The show will be replayed this weekend as well as on other cable access channels across the metro area (e.g., Roseville, Minneapolis, Saint Paul).

Steelworkers Donate $10,000 to the cause!

Bob Bratulich, District Director of the United Steelworkers confimed that the check is in the mail for $10,000. That means True Blue is buying two jumbotrons for the RNC.

This is the Steelworkers second donation.  The first, last summer, to get this project off the ground.

Join the Steelworkers by buying our next jumbotron.
